Advisor, Speaker, and Strategist for Enterprising Families
The Journey: From Family Business to Thought Leadership
Josh grew up in Sargento Foods, the multi-generational cheese company his family has owned and run for three generations. As a member of a family business with 2,700 employees in a town of 8,000 people, this unique position came with both blessing and burden—the privilege of family enterprise membership alongside the pressure of expectations from family, employees, and community. Long before he advised other families on governance, succession, and complex family dynamics, he was living it.
Josh returned to the University of Notre Dame to study philosophy and theology in the seminary, discerning a call to the Catholic priesthood — a chapter that shaped how he thinks about purpose, stewardship, and what it means to serve something larger than yourself. After a year of discernment, he realized his calling lay elsewhere.
As a Manager at Deloitte Consulting, Josh advised on mergers & acquisitions and helped design the firm's global talent strategy — experience that sharpened his eye for structure, incentives, and how organizations actually make decisions.
Today, Josh is the founder of Bench Consulting. He's a board director at Sargento Foods and at a $700 million ESOP auto dealership group, a Hogan- and Gallup-certified coach, and a part-time instructor with UNC Kenan-Flagler's Family Enterprise Center. Josh combines his lived experience as a family business member, his values-driven approach, and his corporate strategic expertise to help families navigate the messy, beautiful work of building enterprises that last.
Experience & Expertise
Josh built his perspective from every seat at the table. As a Manager at Deloitte Consulting, he worked mergers and acquisitions and helped design the firm's global talent strategy. As a Hogan- and Gallup-certified coach, he works directly with family leaders and senior teams. As a board director — at his own family's company, Sargento Foods, and at a $700 million ESOP auto dealership group — he sits inside the governance conversations he now teaches. And as a part-time instructor with UNC Kenan-Flagler's Family Enterprise Center, he passes that experience on to the next generation of family business leaders.
Today, as founder of Bench Consulting, Josh spends his time helping family owners transition ownership and leadership across generations, coaching family members and senior leaders, building boards of directors, and running executive roundtables for family-run companies large and small.
